Tremonton, UT – Owen Laub Cannon, 88, passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at the Bear River Valley Hospital. He was born June 13, 1921 to Lewis Ray and Jenny Lou Laub Cannon in Stone, Idaho. He was reared and educated in Stone, ID, Fielding and Tremonton, UT, graduating from Bear River High School. He attended Utah State University receiving a certificate of Master Electrician March 20, 1951. He married Jill Johnson June 8, 1946 in Tremonton, UT. Their marriage was solemnized January 2, 1969 in the Logan LDS Temple.
He served as Tremonton Fire Chief in 1958 and a member of the Box Elder County Sherriff's Posse. He broke and trained horses, assisted in organizing the Bear River Cutter Racing Association, was President of Tremonton Jr. Chamber of Commerce, and a member of Box Elder County Fair Board Horse Show.
He was a High Priest in the Tremonton 13th LDS Ward. His service included the Sunday School Presidency, officiator in the Logan Temple and devoted Home Teacher.
Owen enlisted in the US Army 222nd Field Artillery during WWII in the Pacific Theater; he received the American Defense Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Philippine Liberation Service Medal with two Bronze Stars.
He is survived by his wife; daughter, Carolyn (Bryant) Pulley; son, Christopher (Marieke)Owen Cannon; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Leah C. Holley.
He is preceded in death by 12 siblings and one grandson, Daniel Bryant Pulley.
A funeral service will be held Monday, January 25, 2010 11:00 a.m. at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton with Bishop Eldon Petersen officiating. Family and friends may call Sunday, January 24, 2010 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. and Monday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Tremonton Riverview Cemetery with military honors.
